Removing inactive Sub-projects

I propose that we remove from this template the sub-projects that are inactive, just like {{WikiProject Montana}} and {{WikiProject Nevada}} are not included. Any objections to such additional removals? UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:46, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Actually, after thinking about this for ~3 months, I think it makes more sense to leave them in an add text indicating they are inactive. I plan to begin doing so as time allows. UnitedStatesian (talk) 06:08, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

It baffles me why there's no option to add supplementation for WikiProject Kansas. Could someone please add that WikiProject to the list? Thanks! ToThAc (talk) 00:25, 26 September 2019 (UTC) ToThAc (talk) 00:25, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

Not done please make your edit in Template:WikiProject United States/sandbox and test the change, then reactivate the edit request. — xaosflux Talk 15:06, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
I've just spotted this edit. Whilst it is a long way short of what is needed (and at the same time a long way beyond adding Kansas), something along these lines was desired by Kumioko (talk · contribs) some years ago, and was a contributory cause of their downfall. Check back through the archives of this page to see some of the related discussions. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:22, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
@ToThAc: further on this, I think the reason is that there is a completely separate template for that wikiproject, at {{WikiProject Kansas}}, and that template is already on about 12 thousand talk pages. My understanding is that wikiprojects choose the stand-alone template or to be nested within this one, but not both. UnitedStatesian (talk) 07:25, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
@UnitedStatesian: Interesting. Maybe in the future I'll start an RfC on whether banner templates on WikiProjects covering federated states in countries (states, provinces, territories, federal districts, etc) should be nested in the banner templates for WikiProjects covering their respective parent countries. In the meantime, though, I'll continue editing the page's sandbox to show what the banner nesting scenario would tentatively look like. ToThAc (talk) 15:31, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
I fully support your doing that in the interest of consistency. Let me know how I can help and/or review your sandbox work. UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:18, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

A few states missing

Can we fix this up so that putting e.g. |CA=yes will add the project to the California task force or WikiProject California, and likewise for the other remaining states? Some are still missing. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 06:43, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

I think the projects for those missing states preferred to have their own banners, such as {{WikiProject California}}, in part because some of them have their own subsidiary projects. This template is also unable, at present, to handle inactive subsidiary WikiProjects, like the {{WikiProject Iowa}} template does, for example. So I would oppose such a change. See discussion two threads above for more on this. UnitedStatesian (talk) 12:40, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
A few years ago, a user normally known as Kumioko (but who also went by various other names) decided to pull in all fifty states plus DC, with the objective of dispensing with the state-specific banners. There was much opposition (you can read some of it in the archives of this page, but it did also reach dramaboards like WP:ANI) and we never did manage to untangle all of the resultant mess.
In short: for any given state, you must make absolutely sure that both WP:USA and the state-specific WikiProject both desire such a merge. If either one objects, don't bother pursuing it. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:41, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Request to update the Mississippi template which currently uses the former flag

Please change:

|tf 1 =

|TF_1_LINK = Wikipedia:WikiProject Mississippi
|TF_1_NAME = WikiProject Mississippi
|TF_1_IMAGE = Flag-map of Mississippi.svg
|TF_1_SIZE = x60px
|TF_1_QUALITY = yes
|TF_1_IMPORTANCE = yes

|tf 1 =

|TF_1_LINK = Wikipedia:WikiProject Mississippi
|TF_1_NAME = WikiProject Mississippi
|TF_1_IMAGE = Seal of Mississippi (2014–present).svg
|TF_1_SIZE = x60px
|TF_1_QUALITY = yes
|TF_1_IMPORTANCE = yes

Mississippi is currently the only state with no flag, so the seal should suffice until a replacement flag is adopted.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 20:24, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Please don't post code blobs on talk pages - instead, make your changes to the template's sandbox - that way it's easy to see the precise change that is desired; see WP:TESTCASES. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:13, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
@Redrose64: Thank you for letting me know that I should have used the template's sandbox page Face-smile.svg. I have performed this edit there, see the Mississippi section of the template at Template:WikiProject_United_States/sandbox to view the precise change that I am requesting.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 22:26, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Have a look at Template:WikiProject United States/testcases. Does this exhibit the desired changes? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:08, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
@Redrose64:} Yes, this does. Thank you!  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 01:01, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
OK then,  Done --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:21, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
