James LaRue Avery (Suffolk, Virgínia, 27 de novembre del 1945 − Glendale, Califòrnia, 31 de desembre del 2013) fou un actor estatunidenc. La seva interpretació més coneguda i reeixida fou el paper de l'advocat i després jutge "Philip Banks", tiet de Will Smith a la sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990−96). També ha fet doblatge en diverses sèries d'animació.
