Dunedin, FL

I represent the Dunedin History Museum and the city historian. The reference link(s) to the first land grant and the incorporation of the city is from an old incorrect city of Dunedin page. The dates 1852 and 1925 are incorrect for the first land grant and the founding of the city.— Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs) 15:10 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2022

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2021).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.

  • The functionaries email list ( will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.

How we will see unregistered users

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Speedy Deletion

I need some help. My Account of 7 days is trying to be deleted. Can you help? ThePresidentoftheworld (talk) 00:58, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks Donald. ThePresidentoftheworld (talk) 00:59, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

@ThePresidentoftheworld: Your user page has been proposed for deletion because Wikipedia is not the place to promote your personal fantasy. - Donald Albury 01:19, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Loftus Edit

Hi Donald, Nice to meet you. I appreciate the effort at maintaining neutrality and letting readers draw their own conclusions. I was familiar with Loftus from the Maxwell, North, Weinstein, and Simpson trials, so when I came across mention of her on the Durst page (reading due to his recent death) I went "wow, him too?".

Is there a version of that edit which would strike you as more neutral? Perhaps mentioning that Loftus was an expert witness in defense of Durst, but omitting that he was convicted of murder? Maybe also mentioning that, in the McMartin trial, her testimony helped get false accusations of abuse dismissed? I guess I'm having a hard time understanding how we'd keep things neutral when the material facts could be seen to paint an unflattering picture of someone.

WhichDoctor (talk) 17:46, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

@WhichDoctor: I think this is best discussed on the article talk page, where other editors can participate. I have started a discussion at Talk:Elizabeth Loftus#Coverage of testimony in trials. - Donald Albury 19:44, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

@Bellbucket: That is not how things work on Wikipedia. A change of name does not cancel the history of the school. I strongly advise you to propose any changes you want to make to Riverside High School (Florida) at Talk:Riverside High School (Florida), and to not edit the article unless and until other editors have commented and a consensus has been reached to make those edits. - Donald Albury 17:00, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
