Gpedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/New Zealand

Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to New Zealand. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Gpedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|New Zealand|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to New Zealand.
Further information
For further information see Gpedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Oceania.

Does not meet WP:NBOX or WP:GNG

  • Keep Doesn't pass NBOX as a pro yet, probably will soon due to the team he is with but he does pass as he won his national title in the amateurs.--Donniediamond (talk) 13:02, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
  • Delete WP:NBOX is irrelevant if he doesn't meet WP:GNG. Routine fight coverage and promotions do not meet WP:GNG, nor do passing mentions based on his brother's successful boxing career. Claiming notability based on his boxing team and/or future pro success requires WP:CRYSTALBALL and violates WP:NOTINHERITED. Willing to change my vote if significant independent coverage is shown. Papaursa (talk) 02:11, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
  • Delete. I don't think a New Zealand amateur title justifies inclusion - New Zealand is a small country that isn't a major boxing nation. He's done nothing of note yet as a pro, although if he wins the NZ title next month he'd have more of a claim. Coverage so far is insufficient in my view. --Michig (talk) 09:15, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Fails WP:NPROF. Although the article does not look updated, I'm having trouble finding relevant sources that would augment the article. Geschichte (talk) 19:10, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

  • Comment His record as a researcher is not strong. If the publications listed in the article are his only ones, it's unsurprising that I've not found any substantial coverage of him online. However, there are these two reviews of his book: [1] and [2]. One is in the Yearbook of English Studies, the other in the Sixteenth Century Journal. This means that the subject satisfies Criterion 3 of WP:AUTHOR. It is still true that almost nothing can be verifiably said about him and so, given that NAUTHOR is a gauge for a subject's level of coverage, I'm still undecided as to whether this should be kept. Modussiccandi (talk) 20:47, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
I found one more review in the Sewanee Review [3], for what it's worth. We may be missing some reviews, but so far this looks a bit on the weak side. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 21:46, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
  • Delete notability as an author or scholar of the humanities requires more than one not-very-importsant book. His edition of Spenser's minor poems is, contrary to what the article says, not the standard edition, its a 1997 ed. by a very minor academic publisher --worldcat shows only 17 libraries. (the most recent standard academic edition is The Yale edition of the shorter poems of Edmund Spenser ed. William A Oram, ISBN 78030004245 , in many hundreds of libraries. ; there are numerous other complete editions from academic presses that are much more important than this one). • Delete Per DGG's analysis that shows he does not meet our academic notability criteria.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:12, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
  • Delete per DGG's analysis and fails WP:NPROF and WP:GNG.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 18:11, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletions (WP:PROD)

Rather than discussing PROD-nominees here, it is better to contribute to the talk page for the article nominated for deletion. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything or you may second the nomination. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.

A list of prodded articles with {{WikiProject New Zealand}} tags can be seen at Gpedia:WikiProject New Zealand/Article alerts#Alerts.
