Cactaceae (a vocabulo Graeco κάκτος[ 1] ) sunt familia plantarum florentium ordinis Caryophyllalium , cui familiae sunt circa 1750 species in circa 127 genera digestae.[ 2] Cactaceae in America ab australi Patagoniae regione ad septentriones Canadae occidentalis regiones endemicae sunt , Rhipsali baccifera excepta, quae etiam in Africa et Taprobane habitat . Commune sed in taxinomia Linnaeana invalidum plurimarum specierum nomen est cactus tantum.
Cactaceae sunt plantae caule spinoso , plerumque rotunda vel columnis vel et arbori similis. Nonnullae intra corpus habent carnem vel pulpam ac succum; sunt et quae flores conspicuos aut fructus edules ferunt. Inter succulentas numerantur.
