Valentin Stocker (Luzern , 12 april 1989 ) is een Zwitsers voetballer die doorgaans op het middenveld speelt. Hij verruilde Hertha BSC in januari 2018 transfervrij voor FC Basel .[ 1] Zwitsers voetbalelftal .
Stockers eerste profclub was FC Basel , dat hem op jonge leeftijd bij SC Kriens wegplukte. Hij maakte op 16 augustus 2007 zijn debuut voor Basel in de UEFA Cup , tegen SV Mattersburg . Op 2 maart 2008 volgde zijn competitiedebuut in de wedstrijd tegen FC Thun . Met Basel werd hij zesmaal kampioen van de Zwitserse competitie . In het seizoen 2013/14 maakte hij in dertig competitieduels dertien doelpunten, waarmee hij in de topscorerslijst achter topscorer Shkëlzen Gashi eindigde.[ 2]

Na zijn debuut in het betaald voetbal volgde zijn debuut in het nationale team van Zwitserland . Onder leiding van bondscoach Ottmar Hitzfeld speelde Stocker op 20 augustus 2008 zijn eerste wedstrijd voor Zwitserland, tegen Cyprus (eindstand 4–1). Hij maakte in die oefeninterland het openingsdoelpunt en moest na 75 minuten plaatsmaken voor Johan Vonlanthen .[ 3] Ottmar Hitzfeld opgenomen in de selectie voor het eindtoernooi in Brazilië .[ 4] Marcelo Díaz (Chili ), Serey Die en Giovanni Sio (Frankrijk ), Yann Sommer en Fabian Schär (Zwitserland ) zijn ook actief op het toernooi.
